Aldrich Park


  • Department competition for “The Most Cinematic” display

Contest Guidelines:

  1. Safety First. Please do not use pyrotechnics in department displays or launch any projectiles
  2. Prop Weapons are permitted, but must obviously be props and they cannot launch projectiles. No functional weapons allowed.  Check-in all prop weapons next to the UCI Staff Assembly table
  3. Zero-Waste set materials.  Please make your sets out of materials that can be recycled, composted, or repurposed.  The staff picnic usually qualifies as a Zero Waste Event.  That means that 95% or more of all waste produced is diverted away from landfills. Most of the waste from the picnic gets recycled or composted. If sets are made out of materials that cannot fit into the recycle bins provided at the picnic, please do not leave them in Aldrich Park.  Dispose of them properly yourselves and clean-up after your department displays. Departments who do not clean-up after their department displays may effect future eligibility for entry into picnic competitions
  4. If reenacting scenes from movies, please be considerate of fellow employees and their views. Avoid highly controversial themes or topics that could offend others
  5. Space is limited in the park. Please keep reenactments to small areas
  6. Large props need to be approved. Please contact Joani Harrington if you have specific questions about the use of your props or scenery

The picnic strives to be a Zero Waste event so we encourage everyone to bring their own reusable plates, utensils, and beverage containers. Water fill-up stations and a supply of recyclable plates, utensils, etc. will be available.


To reserve tables and chairs for your department, please email Sarah Prom with the following information by Friday, August 18:

Tables are 6′ long and are $10 each and chairs are $1 each. Please note that space in the park is on a first come, first served basis. In keeping with the open and friendly environment of the picnic, we ask that departments refrain from “roping off” sections of the park. It is OK to bring your own shade in the form of pop-up canopies.


From Research Park: Shuttles will begin running at 11:20am and run every 20 minutes between 110 Theory in Research Park and the Aldrich Loop/Flag Poles. The last pick-up time from the Aldrich Loop/Flag Poles for a return to 110 Theory is 1:50pm.
